Hello mommies!

You might have noticed that we’ve added a new category “SG Made” to our menu. From day one, the original collection of 16 Milky Way styles were made by a group of ladies right here in Singapore.

Is sustainability something that is important to you? We care about it too. Our fabrics are sourced from fabric merchants in Singapore where overstocked fabrics from major international brands are sold. Otherwise, they are bought off small textile retailers, most of whom have been in the trade for a very long time. 

With our locally sourced materials, we work with a small local garment manufacturer to translate our designs into final products that mummies love. We are very blessed to be working alongside this same manufacturer since we started the business in 2005.

Being close to our manufacturer means that we get to pop by whenever we needed, to discuss design and production issues. Because everything is made in small quantities, we were able to stay nimble to refine the styles over cycles of testing and production. 

Not all of Milky Way pieces are made locally; the comparatively large quantities of certain styles means that we sometimes have to look beyond our shores for trusted manufacturers.

The Milky Way team spent a fruitful Saturday afternoon meeting up with, and playing dress up with mums-to-be at the Beautiful Mums Event organised by Mustela Singapore --- the premier skincare brand loved by mums and bubs across the world. Held at the Stemcord office at Gleneagles Medical Centre, the cosy gathering included a session of sharing on a range of topics geared towards the mum-to-be.

Our favourite bit of the event? Fitting mum-to-be with pieces from our collection for their photoshoot session with Cottony Photography. (The space was transformed into a mini studio post-talk.)

Milky Way turns 10! We’ve come a long way from our original incarnation, with 16 core styles, and working out from a home office. The one element that’s been constant through this decade is the same thing we’ve been immensely grateful for. The support of our community -- family, friends, customers-turned-friends, work associates-turned-friends --- has been precious. We thank you all for navigating the ups, downs and curveballs throughout this decade with us.

To mark the occasion, we threw a party on a balmy evening for family and friends on the 4^th of September. The dusk sky set aglow with fairy lights (big shout out to the captain and crew of Megaway 128) provided the magical backdrop to an evening of merriment and conviviality. Thank you for sharing in this occasion and celebrating with us --- as shown in these images --- it was an unforgettable one.

One of the reasons why we love our pop-up store is the spaciousness. 

On Dec 7th 2013, it became the perfect venue for a cosy gathering of mummies who made their way down to attend a sharing session by lactation consultants Juliet Chan and Valerie Ng. 

Juliet and Valerie had helped me alot when I had problems breastfeeding my second child David. That must have been at least six years ago. I also remember buying one of the best time-saving breastfeeding accessories from them - the Pumpin' Pal Handsfree Breastpumping Strap, and the Pumpin' Pal Super Shields. These allowed me to express my excess milk more comfortably, and...hands-free!

Add so imagine my delight when both ladies agreed to visit our store to share their  experience with Milky Way customers.

We discussed issues specific to each mum, ranging from tackling the lack of milk supply, to  improper latch-on positions, to surviving the first few weeks of breastfeeding to establish  a good milk supply.

Thanks to the candid participation of all the mummies who were there, the afternoon turned out immensely fruitful.

This baby fell asleep after nursing.

Cheers to the newfound friendships, and to the wonderful journey of breastfeeding and motherhood!
